Hmong Music Festival 5.26.12

Today is the first annual Hmong Music Festival (HMF)!

HMF is a 12 hour event that features exclusive Hmong artists from all over to perform on one stage. It was super awesome to see all the artists that came and really showcased their musical talents. It was also great to see everyone come out to show their support for our up and rising musicians.

We had a blast at HMF--us sisters and some of our friends from San Diego, and of course, our sister from another mother, the one and only Miss Kao Ker. There were some new artists that really rocked it out like Fourth Seal and Jade Lee, who really packed on the swagger and showed off some really cool dance moves. Then there were the classic oldie but goodie groups like Destiny and Reflections who really brought back good music that can stand the test of time.

Good times! Being from San Diego, I still get that culture shock feeling when I'm around so many Hmongs. Attending this event, watching the performers and the crowd's reaction really puts me in a feel good mood knowing that Hmong music is alive and well.

Hello and Welcome!

This blog, Creative on a Budget, is a collective space for me and my sisters to showcase our philosophy for life; which really is to be creative in whatever we do, especially when we’re not swimming in cash.

There’s more to us that just one or two things, and that’s why there’s a few focus points in this blog. Each of us is quite different from one another.
There’s the baker who buys only 50 pound bags of flour and sugar and can lift baking trays out of the oven sometimes without mittens. She can experiment with measurements and timing to the point of sabotaging our diets.
There’s the chef who can live in a clean kitchen and cook and cook and cook. She truly is skilled at developing flavors and fixing any kitchen snafu that we may create in her absence.
There’s the artist who is passionate about her crafts and channels her artistic inner-self into every project she undertakes. She can take plywood and bottle-caps and turn it into Dangerous Art.
There’s the fashionistas who can accessorize our accessories. These two can spot a trend before it’s set, and that’s all from shopping exclusively at thrift and second hand stores.
There’s the only-slightly-insane coupon sister, who will make that 38 transaction for free toilet paper. She’s the one who truly goes to great lengths to save the big bucks. And she makes the effort share her lifetime supply of chap-sticks, that she got for only 45 cents. In store in this blog are all our individual passions, hobbies, and talents meshed into one. Enjoy!
